WHY I BECAME A NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR…

I have always been a caretaker, from a young age and was interested in medicine. I also had a fantastic pediatrician who understood that medicine was not just a pill but letting the body do its job, when given the opportunity and he stressed the  importance of spending time outside in nature and daily chores and of using medication responsibly.

But my journey to naturopathic medicine started later, in my early 20’s, because I did not know it existed. After deciding conventional medicine was not for me in high school, I was really unsure of the path that I would take. But it was my health journey that led me to find it.

With regard to my own health, I came to the realization that there was limited help and support, other than medications and I sought out other options, which helped and led me to study nutrition. I thought I found “it”. But that left me feeling left out the current paradigm that was being taught. My focus on food quality and clean sources was not being taught, at that time.

What I did come to learn was there were programs that taught all the things that made sense to me. And that was it… I applied to Bastry University to finish my bachelor’s degree, with the plan to continue through the naturopathic program. And that is what I did.  Without even visiting the school, I left for 6 years to complete my bachelors and doctorate and never looked back.

I am fortunate to have had the opportunity and support, from so many people to help reach my goal.

THINGS YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT ME

I am not sure that there is anything surprising but there are some things that I love and set me right: sunshine, hot hot heat, the ocean and rollercoasters.

Music is a part of my everyday, and I cannot imagine a day without it.

When I was nine, I decided to live at the beach as soon as I was old enough and spend two summers working and meeting people from all over the world.

I go to the US Open every year and I don’t play tennis.
