WHY I BECAME A NUTRITIONIST...

I became a nutritionist because I truly believe that food is medicine. Time and again, I have seen how nourishing the body with whole, thoughtfully chosen foods can support meaningful change—from managing chronic health concerns and reducing pain, to improving mood, boosting energy, supporting skin health, and even enhancing athletic performance. The possibilities are endless when food is used as a cornerstone for health!

As a former professional dancer and personal trainer, I often felt frustrated by the “food noise” in the industry. So much focus was placed on calories and the number on the scale, while little attention was given to digestion, nutrient quality, stress, sleep, muscle mass, and other key factors that truly influence health. These experiences inspired me to take a more balanced, whole-person approach to nutrition—one that goes beyond numbers to support lasting health and well-being.

Diet and lifestyle changes can be challenging, but my experience has shown me that lasting, meaningful change happens when we work together. Nutrition is my passion, and I love sharing that knowledge with my clients. I’m here to partner with you— guiding and supporting you every step of the way on your health journey.

THINGS YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT ME

I love plants. My last count revealed that I have 25 plants on my first floor alone!

Despite being a nutritionist, I will never say no to a chocolate chip cookie!

I’m originally from Texas, but life (and being a military brat and spouse)

has brought me to Pennsylvania.

In 2007 I started a charity, called Cheer for the Troops with the Denver Bronco Cheerleaders.

This charity provides care packages and necessities to deployed soldiers during the holidays. Cheer for the Troops is still an active charity in the NFL today.

My family are die-hard Bills fans—so much so that our dog is named Allen, after Josh Allen.

Go Bills!

FAMILY LIFE

My family is my everything! My husband and I have three amazing kids who are growing way too fast. Right now, our lives revolve around football and dance schedules, but on our rare downtime, we love playing games (way too competitively), watching football, or relaxing on the beach in Florida. Having my parents close by is an added bonus—especially since none of us are originally from Pennsylvania. In fact, my dad lives right on my street! I feel truly blessed to be surrounded by the people I love and doing work that I love.

"Dr. Shoemaker is a treasure. Her expertise has helped me manage multiple chronic conditions. I am so thankful for Natural Paths to Wellness, where patients are treated as partners in the process.  THANK YOU!"
